Enjoy watching Nichola in this week's tutorial and learn all the top tips on how to create a 2-dimensional Queen shaped novelty cake, the perfect street party centre piece. If you haven't tried this style of cake before, this is a fantastic design to have a go at!
To begin Nichola will show you step by step on how to carve a cake into shape using a template supplied as a guide, this continues with how to cover the cake with sugarpaste and achieve a smooth even finish. You will then move on to how to add characteristic facial features, piped swirly hair using rosettes, stars, and wave techniques, how to create a pearl necklace and finally how to make and decorate a crown cake topper fit for a Queen. The methods used to create this cake design can easily be adapted and broken down to suit any person within your family or possibly even a favourite story book character.

After achieving a City & Guilds in Sugarcraft, Nichola joined Cake Craft World as a creative cake designer and decorator and is known for her remarkable attention to detail. Her style is influenced by the love of being a qualified (BA Hons) textile and fashion designer, which is expressed through the use of colour, pattern and design which are key elements that reflect her skills and passion. Nichola is also very experienced in sugar modelling, flower making and painting cakes for all occasions. Watch her take you, step by step through techniques such as cake marbling, creating edible gold sequins and ornate pearl borders. One of her most watched videos is the cake based around an afternoon tea where the 3D teapot cake, icing cup and saucer and cupcake are all set on a board decorated as a tray!
